Sustainable Energy Center

Sustainable Energy Discovery & Conference Center, the latest in sustainable technology with an emphasis on wind is scheduled to open in 2009. Hands-on "edu-tainment" for all ages. Short programs for K-12 and community interests, conference programs for corporations and groups, technical classes with Sauk Valley Community College, and industry training utilizing real equipment and materials. Located just north of Sublette near Route 52 and Inlet Road. Watch for the wind turbines.

Historic Dixon Theatre

The year 1922 saw the opening of the new Dixon Theatre, which was thought to be one of the midwests most beautiful "show houses." Visitors may now again enjoy the results of the extensive restoration, done through the efforts of volunteers and with community support. This historic site has become a showcase for the performing arts and is also available for rental.

Ashton Summer Celebration & Toy Tractor Show

Ashton comes alive with food, fun and frivolity. Crafts, horseshoe contest, kiddie rides, bean bag tournament, bessy bingo and more. Car show. Farm Toy Show features exhibits, buying, selling and trading of toy tractors. Weekend ends with a vintage "base ball" game and fireworks.

Sublette's Annual Farm Toy Show & Antique Tractor Show

Come to the "Little Town with the Big Toy Show". Exhibitors from throughout the Midwest. Cast iron, plastic and metal toys ranging from scale models of antique tractors to models of the latest farm equipment are displayed, as well as an antique tractor exhibition. A pancake breakfast and food stands satisfy hungry appetites.

Mendota Hills Campground

Large lakefront and wooded sites available from one day to one year. Secluded sites, sanitary station, modern restrooms, showers, store, firewood, laundry, hayrack rides, boat rental, hiking, game room, 2 social halls, heated barn for square dancing and groups, heated party room. Snow birds welcome. Activity calendar on request. Golf driving range open to the public. 3 1/2 miles south of Amboy on U.S. Rte 52. 12 miles NW of Mendota.

Community Christmas Walks

Horse drawn carriage rides, Santa Claus, live nativity scenes, arts and crafts, games, and shopping specials are among the activities usually included. Held annually by almost every community in Lee County from mid-November through December.

Autumn on the Prairie

Tours, displays, children’s tent, music and wagon rides. Watch local artists create paintings of prairie landscapes. Food is available. Located on Lowden Road between Flagg and Naylor Roads northwest of Franklin Grove.

Paw Paw Labor Day Celebration

The downtown area comes alive with a parade, kids’ games, horseshoe pitching, a flea market/craft show, food and entertainment. Sponsored by the Lion’s Club. Large judged car show. Tractor, truck and garden tractor pulls.

Reagan Trail Days

Celebrate the life and times of America’s 40th President. Begin on Friday evening at the Reagan Ball, an evening of music, dancing and good food. Then spend Saturday enjoying the Historic Sites of Reagan’s Boyhood in Dixon. Travel from site to site along Reagan Way on the free trolley. Visit Lowell Park where Reagan worked as a life guard. Experience at the park the free pontoon boat rides on the Rock River as well as other outdoor activities. Cap off the day with a Horse Parade down Reagan Way.
